MASHED ISSUE 6
If you need a bit of inspiration to get you through the winter then this issue is going to go down as beautifully as a cool pint on a hot day. (Remember those?) We’ve jumped in early on Small Batch Brewing Co., following the first stages of their startup as a nanobrewery, and share tips on the courses which can help you go more pro yourself.
Plus we follow The Bucharest Hash House Harriers on their beer run. A fine excuse for a pint or two!
And we couldn’t ignore the festive theme, so we’ve given you some cracking recipes for a 4-course liquid Christmas lunch. After the year we’ve all had, I think we’ll need it. Here’s to the good times. Cheers!
how to build a DIY FERMENTATION CHAMBER
Once you get into your brewing, you quickly realize the importance of the fermentation period. And the key factor of this period is keeping a constant temperature. All yeasts have their own working temperature and it’s important to make sure your brew doesn’t stray either above or below this. Doing so will have considerable effects on your final product. Taste and alcohol content could be compromised.

Notes from the Hop Farm
When I was writing the last farm report back in the summer we were just getting ready to harvest the hops. It’s strange to think I’m now writing this from our temporary HQ in Sweden (more on this later). Boy, what a harvest we had! As you know, I’ve been banging on about our hydroponic hops for some time now. But this season was our first proper harvest, and they did not disappoint.

TRYANUARY
Tryanuary is a nationwide campaign, founded in 2015 to encourage support for the beer industry throughout January. The beginning of the year can be a challenging month at the best of time for independent breweries, pubs, bars and other retailers so it’s a fantastic initiative. And right now they need an extra bit of support. Here are some tips to help you help them out (lockdown, social distancing etc permitting):

Going Pro
We’ve all been there. When you’re admiring the incredible beer you’ve crafted, cooing at it like it’s your first born. Damn it’s good. Better than some brews you’ve paid good money for. Maybe you should set up a brewery...or go work for an established one. Or become a consultant. Or train others.

Does Home Brewing Save You Money?
The ‘silver lining’ of lockdown is that is has provided us with more time for homebrewing. For some it was the final nudge to make their first foray into the world of beer craft. But you don’t need a PhD in economics to see that the whole country is pretty wobbly right now.
