Brew Tank & Uni Tank | Homebrewing Equipment

REVIEW: THE BREW TANK

MASHED ISSUE 13

‘My 60L Brew Tank arrived last week and my first brew with it was a pleasure…it’s amazingly robust and flexible with an array of configurations possible by adding tri-clamp accessories. The RIMS system held the mash temperature very stable. The positioning of the ports (e.g. the heating elements, thermowells and whirlpool) makes brewing anything from 15L to 50L easy. The 3kW element meant that the boil was plenty vigorous – the boil-off rate was around 4.5L per hour. Clean-up was a breeze: I bought a 13mm tri-clamp hose barb, attached a standard garden hose to pump waste cleaning fluid straight down the drain. The ‘wort sprayer’ works well during the mash and is actually a clean-in-place ball, so also great for cleaning after the brew. Gareth’s personal customer support is excellent – all in all I’d totally recommend the BrewTank – it’s better value, better build quality and much more flexible than near competitors.’

The 40L and 60L Brew Tank Explorer II are the ultimate tools for all grain brewing! The top of the range model comes with wort recirculation, RIMs, cooling and loads more goodies so you can brew at home like a pro. The 40L Brew Tank is ideal for brewing up 30L, around 50 pints. With the impressive 3KW heating element alongside the efficient RIMs system you have the perfect balance of power and accuracy. Simple to use and simple to clean.

What’s included: The Brew Tank “Explorer Pack II” integrates a 1.5KW RIMs system within the wort recirculation. Allowing you to use the powerful 3KW heating element to heat up to strike temperature and during boil and then switching the 1.5KW (RIMs) during the mash for optimum control and efficiency. The “L” valve allows to you switch seamlessly between recirculation and the built in whirlpool. The wort spray provides a even coverage over your grain bed. The Explorer Pack II also comes with an immersible chiller with hose connection for cooling out wort quickly after the boil. Prices start at £675 for the Base Pack. From £975 for Explorer II.

IPAs & Pressure Fermentation: A Game-Changer?

Pressure fermentation is transforming IPA production by providing brewers with new ways to enhance hop expression, refine mouthfeel, and optimise fermentation conditions. Traditionally, beer is fermented at atmospheric pressure, but applying controlled CO? pressure influences yeast behaviour and hop interaction in ways that can elevate the final product.

The Pros and Cons of Using a Beer Filter

Homebrewing is both an art and a science, offering brewers the freedom to experiment with flavours and styles. One of the key considerations in this hobby is achieving the desired beer clarity… or is it? After bringing up the conversation in our last homebrew meet, I got my hands on a plate filter from one of our members. I was excited to test it out, but then it got me thinking about the article we recently wrote about casks and the “live ales” (issue 21) and whether there are downsides to producing an ultra-bright beer and whether the CAMRA campaign might have a further application beyond cask and secondary fermentation.

GAS MIXES

How do you serve your beer? While you can of course simply pour your brew into a glass from a bottle or can, bringing gas into the equation can elevate your brew. But how do you go about it? Gareth Davies tells us how.

Mastering the MULTI-STEP Mash

One of things I enjoy about homebrewing is that, on one hand you can craft great beer from very simple methods, on the other hand, you can try out more advanced techniques to refine your brews. If you like to dabble, and are interested in how things work, the science behind brewing can be satisfying to delve into. One area that it particularly useful to try is the multi-step mash.
